JANUARY FAVOURITES:
1. FLUFFY SLIPPERS
I can’t be the only one that hates the feeling of their feet against the cold floors. Usually, I would just wear my socks around the house however my mum would always hassle me to put slippers on because my white socks were getting so dirty. Now, I’m such a slipper gal!
Over the past few years, I have tried out different “cheaper” pairs which never really lasted longer than 6 months. So, I decided to spend a little more money this time around. I’ve only had these Steve Madden slippers for a month now and I absolutely love them so far. Fingers crossed they last!
2. ROOM REED DIFFUSERS
As we are in our second lockdown (and hopefully the last!), I have felt so inspired to add more “luxury” into my surroundings, but without the luxury price tag. My goal is to make my environment cosy, especially my bedroom. An affordable way I did this is by creating an ambience with reed diffusers!
CHANGES I’VE MADE TO EAM.COM:
1. ADDED ADS THROUOUT
I’m sure you’ve all seen that my site looks a little bit different… A few weeks ago I got accepted into Google Adsense, so I can slowly make my blog a stream of income for me!
Please bare with me as I’m still trying to get my head around ad placement.
2. CHANGED MY NICHE SLIGHTLY
You may have noticed that I have changed my site (ever so slightly). I removed my fashion content and decided to focus my website on organisation and self-improvement, as this is a big passion of mine. Although I will always love fashion, it is difficult to create posts focusing on fashion without violating copyright laws. To be honest, all of my organisation posts were doing better than my fashion posts anyways so I’m sure you guys are happy that you will only be getting more self-improvement content.

SITE GROWTH:
What did I do?
I haven’t really changed my technique to grow my Pinterest, all I have really done is create more graphics that will lead people to my site instead of sharing other people’s content. In the past, I would post 5-10 pins per day of my own content and around 20-25 pins of other users content. Since doing so, my Pinterest monthly viewers have almost doubled in 1 month!
I’m sure you all by now that the only reason I am able to release 30+ pins a day is because of Tailwind! Tailwind is LITERALLY my lifesaver because it allows me to schedule my pins in advance, so there is no need for me to go on Pinterest at all when I am preoccupied with uni during the week.
BOOK OF THE MONTH: ATOMIC HABITS
One of my New Years goals is to read a book a month. This may seem straightforward for many of you, but I don’t know the last time I read a book cover to cover (tragic I know). I would always make the excuse that “books aren’t for me” and “I’m too busy”. So, at the end of 2020, I set myself the goal. I really want to grow in 2021, in every aspect of my life and I know that absorbing different forms of content daily is an essential part of this growth period.
Now, onto my January read! I’ve heard so much about the book Atomic Habits written by James Clear, so I thought why not start 2021 with this read.
From now on I will be including a few of my takeaways in each monthly overview, in doing so I hope I will be able to stick to my goal.
MY TAKEAWAYS FROM “ATOMIC HABITS”:
1. HABIT STACKING
Habit Stacking is a concept that James Clear delves into, where you do 2 habits straight after each other. However, the key is that you pair a current habit with a habit you would like to add to your routine.
Let me give you an example, as I mentioned before one of my goals is to read a book a month. In the past, my goals would be to read more but I never made steps that I was going to follow in order to achieve this.
So, in order to make sure I read more, I made the habit that as soon as I wake up at 6 am (old habit) I would pick up my iPad and read for 20-30 mins before I check my phone (new habit).
2. THE KEY IS TO MAKE BAD HABITS HARD AND GOOD HABITS EASY
One of my favourite quotes from the book is, “commitment devices are useful because they enable you to take advantage of good intentions before you fall victim to temptation”. During the long treacherous journey of building a habit, it is so easy to derail. The first few days are always the easiest because your habit is driven by motivation. Unfortunately, motivation does not last forever and there will be a time where you will be tempted to go back to the bad habit you initially wanted to withdraw from.
In order to avoid the distraction of temptation, you need to make good habits easy and bad habits hard. For example, if you want to get to sleep earlier you could turn the power off at a specific time which would result in the wifi shutting down. Consequently, you will find it easier to sleep at a decent hour.
3. THE TWO MINUTE RULE
Lastly, James Clear introduces the idea that “when you start a new habit, it should take less than two minutes”. Now, I was a little confused as to how this was feasible but as I read on, this piece of advice started to make more sense.
At the end of the day, any habit can be scaled down into 2 minutes or less. For example, if one of your goals is to study every evening, the first step of the habit is to open your notes. Similarly, if you want to run 5km a day the first step is to change into your workout clothes. He goes on to explain that making the first step of your habit easy, increases the chance of you fulfilling said goal.
My February read is going to be “Blowing my way to the top” by Jen Atkin, if you are interested in reading along with me!
PODCAST EPISODE OF THE MONTH:
THE SKINNY CONFIDENTIAL: DEAN GRAZIOSI ON THE POWER OF MINDSET TO BUILD INNER STRENGTH, CONFIDENCE & OVERCOME OBSTACLES
I listened to this podcast on Thursday and WOW! Honestly, this podcast episode spoke to me so much. As soon as I listened to it, I texted a few close friends and family to listen to this because I left the episode feeling so inspired.
Now, I’m not going to go into the episode too much because I think you should all listen to this episode. But I thought I would share a few of my favourite quotes.
My favourite quotes:
- “Living the easy way is hard and living the hard way isn’t easy”
- “If you are craving another level of happiness, more intimacy and passion in your relationship, I believe it takes uncomfortable action”
- “Those with the most regret are the ones who blamed other people”
LIFE UPDATES:
– NEW ROUTINES
Towards the end of last year, one of my goals was to show up for myself!
My first step was to create a routine, particularly a morning routine. I found that creating a set morning routine that I’m able to stick to throughout the weekdays, kept me motivated, inspired and high energy throughout the day. If you are interested in how I created a morning routine that is tailored to me, I go into it in this post!
– INCREASE IN MY MOTIVATION
Following on from creating new routines in my life, I’ve found that my motivation has increased a lot as a result. Don’t get me wrong, I do have my moments where I get overwhelmed, sad and don’t want to get up when my alarm goes off! Life isn’t so straight forward, but I have definitely seen a shift in my motivation recently.
I also started listening to podcasts every morning whilst I am working out, which I have found has pushed my workouts up a notch.
– STARTED ONLINE UNI
Christmas holidays really went TOO fast! Now, I’m back at university and currently just about to start week 4 of 12. I already know this is going to be intense but I’m ready for it.
And that’s it!
I hope you guys liked the new sections I’ve added into my monthly overviews! Also, I would love to know if there is anything you would like me to include in these monthly overviews.
See you next month xx
