Is it just me or is the last quarter of the year FLYING by! I hope you all are staying safe during this time, and I hope my posts are a distraction for you whilst also helping you to GET YOUR LIFE SORTED OUT.
Let’s get into this week’s post… Today we are going to be diving into kitchen organisation: the do’s, don’t’s and all of my recommendations.
Kitchen organisation is quite difficult to get right because there is just so much to organise. From your pantry/ cupboard goods to under your kitchen sink, making sure everything has a place is hard. Today, you will learn the ins/ outs all of my secrets to achieving an organised and practical kitchen.
WHAT YOU NEED TO ORGANISE YOUR KITCHEN:
1. DYMO LABEL MAKER
This label maker is hands down my favourite gadget when it comes to organisation! Not only do they help identify and differentiate what’s inside of your jars, but they are also so aesthetically pleasing to look at!
Let me tell you a funny story that happened the first day I moved into my studio… So, obviously, none of my spices was labelled. My mum went to make a cup of tea, however, instead of grabbing the sugar, she grabbed the salt… Gross, I know! Ever since I labelled all of my jars, no one has made that mistake again!
PANTRY ORGANISATION:
1. SPICE JARS
De-potting all of your spices is so practical and it is also adds uniform to your kitchen. Spices come in so many packets of different colours, shapes and sizes so transferring them into the same pot adds a clean look to your kitchen which ultimately makes your kitchen look more organised and clean.
DON’T STOP THERE!
Grab your Dymo label maker and label all of your spices so you don’t make the same mistake as my mum.
This is how I organise my spices in my new place…
2. BASKETS
Baskets are a little different but I love how they add to a space. Not only are they such a great way to store fruits or snacks, but they are also such a cute decor piece and an easy way to add colour.
3. FOOD CONTAINERS
I’m sure you have all seen pictures on Pinterest of people’s pantries… 9 times out of 10 you will see these food containers being used somehow. Yes, they are so easy on the eye, but I love how practical they are. For example, when you are pouring flour out of the packet it usually goes EVERYWHERE! When I decant all my pantry produce away, cooking is a lot less messy. Also, they prevent your food such as cereal from going stale quickly.
5. MASON JARS
I remember mason jars making a huge come back in Tumblr and 2012 YouTube days. I used to be obsessed with watched DIY videos on different ways to use mason jars.
You can fill them with anything! Sweets, spices, flour, cereal bars and so much more. You can never go wrong with mason jars, don’t limit them to your pantry, add them to your countertops or your fridge to really step up your kitchen organisation game!
FRIDGE ORGANISATION:
1. RETRACTABLE BASKETS
Retractable shelves are the perfect addition to organise your fridge whilst taking little to no space. You can add eggs, fruit, veg and even canned drinks! Then, I suggest labelling the baskets with your Dymo label maker!
2. STACKABLE BINS
Stackable bins save a lot of space when storing your food in your fridge. The lid is also perfect because it prevents any cross contamination.
3. CLEAR BINS
Adding clear bins to the shelves in your fridge helps to separate all of your food stuffs. For example. your meats and dairy. Ultimately, they just help everything in your fridge have a place. And again, don’t forget to label them!
4. CLEAR FOOD STORAGE CONTAINER
Similar to the stackable bins and clear bins, this food container is useful to store away produce that you don’t want to get stale or protect from liquids. Milk and juice sometimes leak in the fridge so it is always best to prevent your food and produce from contamination.
My favourite way of utilising these containers are by storing eggs or onions!
LIFE HACK: STORING YOUR ONIONS IN THE FRIDGE STOPS THEM FROM MAKING YOU CRY WHEN COOKING
5. EGG STORAGE
If you don’t buy enough eggs to fill the plastic containers above, this egg tray will be perfect for you. It even fits perfectly in your fridge door to prevent any breakages when you are constantly opening and closing the fridge, hoping that the next time you open it something will magically appear… I’m sure I’m not the only one!
DRAW ORGANISERS:
1. ADJUSTABLE DIVIDERS
These adjustable dividers are GENIUS! They will transform your junk drawer (we all have one somewhere)…
I’ve lost count of the number of times that I bought the wrong sized draw organiser. Adjustable dividers avoid the hassle of scavenging for the perfect tray to cater to your belongings. All you need to do is slot the dividers into your draw and control how wide you want the compartments to be.
QUICK TIP: MAKE TO COMPARE THE DEPTH OF YOUR DRAWS TO THE HEIGHT OF THE DIVIDERS, SO YOU ARE ABLE TO CLOSE YOUR EXTREMELY ORGANISED DRAWERS
You can even use them in your wardrobe or desk drawers if you want to.
2. CUTLERY TRAY
I’m sure you all own and use a tray to organise your cutlery, but if you don’t this is your reminder!
3. ACRYLIC COMPARTMENTS
There are so many acrylic compartments available for you to buy, however, this style is one of my favourites. Surprisingly, I don’t use this for cutlery, instead, I use it to organise my junk draw! Separating: batteries, food clips, food bin bags and odds and ends.
CUPBOARD ORGANISATION:
1. SHELF INSERTS
Do you have too little cupboard space or too much stuff? Well, shelf inserts solves both of those problems! I find that sometimes we are given a lot of space between shelves in our cupboards. To prevent any space going to waste, shelf inserts are a quick and affordable way to add a shelf into your cupboards.
The best advantage about these is that you can take them out and store them away OR switch it over inito a different cupboard!
2. TRAY ORGANISER
Oven trays and food trays can be such a pain to keep tidy because we are constantly grabbing them daily. Separating each tray in this style of organiser makes it so easy to grab a tray without messing up the others.
YOU CAN EVEN USE THIS ORGANISER TO STORE YOUR CHOPPING BOARDS!
3. TIER STAND
Such a practical way to organise glasses, spices, tinned food and so much more! Tiered stands make it a lot easier for you to see everything at a glance. I’ve found that less food went bad and fewer glasses/ mugs break because everything in the cupboard was so accessible!
4. MUG HOLDER
If you haven’t got much space on your counters or in your cupboards, having a few inserts in your cupboards, saves you a lot of space for larger items. Also, you can see all of your mugs at once. Whenever you open your cupboard to make your morning coffee or tea, your organised mugs will put a smile straight on your face… The perfect way to start the morning!
UNDER THE SINK ORGANISATION:
1. SLIDING BASKETS
Organising under your sink can be quite tricky because of the lack of space due to the pipes from the sink. However, I have found this insert, helped keep all of my cleaning supplies organised. You can easily access each basket by simply sliding the basket forward.
2. ADJUSTABLE CABINET INSERT
I love these adjustable cabinet inserts, because you can change the width and the height to fit the cupboard under your sink perfectly!
And that’s it!
Here are a plethora of different things that you can add to your kitchen now to step up your organisation game. Trust me, when this pandemic is over and you are allowed people over again, they are going to be so obsessed with how organised your kitchen looks!
