SETTING UP YOUR PINTEREST ACCOUNT
Before you can even THINK about growing your Pinterest account, you need to set one up. There are 11 ESSENTIAL steps that need to be done, which will set you ahead of other accounts…
1. CREATE A PINTEREST ACCOUNT
This is pretty self explanatory…
2. CHANGE YOUR ACCOUNT TO A BUSINESS ACCOUNT
Changing your Pinterest account from personal to a business account is an extremely essential step when you want to grow your account. If you have not changed it to a business account, DO THIS NOW.
What is the difference between a personal and a business account?
- You can view your analytics
- You can link your website/ blog
- You’re able to create ads
3. CHANGE YOUR USERNAME
Next, change your Pinterest username, I suggest making your username the same as your website name. In order to change your username, you need to click onto settings. Then, you should see, “edit profile”.
4. CHANGE YOUR DISPLAY NAME
Similarly, you will need to make sure that you have a display name. It is very important that you add some keywords in relation to your niche. Adding keywords will increase your chances of appearing in the search bar.
5. CLAIM YOUR SITE
Now, it is important that you claim your site because it will show anyone who visits your account that your website is legit. Consequently, your Pinterest is more likely to grow.
It can take between a day and a week to have your site verified and it is so easy to do. Once you click on “Settings”, you should see a tab called “claim”. After your site is verified by Pinterest, you will see a tick, similar to the image below.
6. WRITE YOUR “ABOUT YOUR PROFILE”
Your “about me” should be a short introduction about who you are as a person and a blog/ website.
It can take a while to think of what to write as your profile description, this was the last thing that I did before my account was active!
7. CHANGE YOUR PROFILE PICTURE
TOP TIP: PEOPLE ARE MORE LIKELY TO FOLLOW A FACE!
People want to see who they are following, having a nice picture of yourself that is welcoming, is really important when creating your Pinterest account. I noticed as soon as I changed my profile picture from a logo to a photo of me, my engagement increased a lot.
8. CREATE AROUND 20 BOARDS
Now, the next few steps are going to take you a bit longer to complete but they are super important.
You need to create around 20 new boards which are specific to your niche. For example, if you have a fashion blog, boards you could create could be styling, fashion inspo, summer fashion and/or shoe inspo…
Here are some of the boards that I created…
QUICK TIP: CREATE A BOARD THAT HOLDS ALL OF THE PINS YOU HAVE CREATED AND MAKE SURE IT IS THE FIRST BOARD YOU CAN SEE…
9. CREATE BOARD COVERS
As you can see above, I have board covers for each of my Pinterest boards. I didn’t see the importance but after I created them, my page instantly looked more uniform and streamlined.
Your Pinterest board cover doesn’t need to be crazy graphics! As long as they match with your brand and aesthetic, it is perfect.
QUICK TIP: MAKE SURE THE LETTERING IS CLEAR AND LEGIBLE
10. WRITE YOUR BOARD DESCRIPTIONS
After you have created all of your boards, you can add a short (or long) description, giving new viewers a little info about what they can expect to see. I don’t think it is a vital step to do at the beginning, but it is a step that will make your account stand out.
This task can be very time consuming and tedious, but I have seen a difference in which board does well according to my board description.
QUICK TIP: ADD KEYWORDS TO INCREASE THE CHANCES OF YOUR BOARD APPEARING IN SEARCH. YOU CAN EVEN USE HASHTAGS!
11. ADD 20-30 PINS TO EACH BOARD
In order to attract people to your account, you need to have content for people to see and engage with. So, the last step of setting up your Pinterest account is to add pins to all of the boards you created previously.
Make sure every pin in each board is related to the board title!
HOW TO GROW YOUR PINTEREST
1. GET TAILWIND
If you are serious about growing your Pinterest, the first thing you need to do is get Tailwind. If you have not heard of this website before, I talk all about it in my blogging resources post. Essentially, Tailwind is a scheduling system that automatically posts your pins at the time your followers are most active.
You can create your Pinterest pins on Canva (I will get into this in a second), and then upload them onto Tailwind. Here are a few pins that I will be uploading soon.
After you have written a blog post, I suggest creating 4-5 pins that are slightly different and uploading them onto Tailwind to be posted. Once you have scheduled your pins, the right-hand side of your screen will look something like this…
As you can see, I am very behind on my graphics! I usually aim to be 2 weeks ahead (400 pins)…
2. PINTEREST TRENDS
Whilst I was researching useful sites to use when I was first starting my blog, Pinterest trends came up many times!
Ultimately, Pinterest trends gives you 9 topics that are trending at the moment. Knowing the trends can help you come up with ideas to blog about.
To be very honest, I don’t use Pinterest trends a lot because I like to write about topics that come to me naturally, however when I am struggling and lacking creativity I will check to see what’s trending.
3. USE CANVA TO CREATE GRAPHICS
Canva is a website that helps you easily create ANY graphic! I have been using Canva for years every once in a while but now I am constantly on it.
If you have never created graphics before, Canva makes it so easy. Here are some graphics that I have created using Canva…
And that’s it!
You’re all set to set up and start growing your Pinterest account! You’ll notice that as your Pinterest grows, more people will go to your site! Good luck xx
