HOW I INVESTED IN MYSELF IN 2020…
1. Spent more time doing things I enjoyed
I don’t know if I would’ve done this if it wasn’t for lockdown, but since I had so much time on my hands I spent so much time doing things that I loved/ was putting off. For example, I spent so much time taking outfit pics for Instagram. Some may say it was a waste of time, but personally, I have no regrets.
I had no intention of becoming an influencer, all I wanted to do is showcase one of my loves, fashion. And I think I did accomplish that.
2. Started journaling
Now, I started journaling around 4 years ago but my reason was completely different as to why I started again this year. When I was 16, all I wanted to do was capture memories for me to read back on when I was older. However, 4 years later, I journal for my mental health.
2020 has been extremely mentally draining, with MANY ups and downs, as an overthinker I found that getting everything out on paper helped me process my thoughts and feelings.
3. Started a blog
This is hands down one of the best things I did for myself in 2020, I was so hesitant to start a blog because I thought that it was very outdated and I had no idea how I was going to be able to commit to posting every week. Having said that, I’m so proud of myself for starting it and growing it to the place it is at right now. Looking forward to what 2021 has in store for esseandmore.com!
4. Started a new business
Technically, I started my business at the end of 2019 but it set off in 2020… I have always wanted my own business and I actually did have one for a few months when I was 16.
I have learnt so much but I am so happy with the place that my business is at right now. If you are interested in getting your hands on cute stationery, check out my Etsy shop here.
5. Got blue light glasses
When I was setting up my site, I spent 12+ hours staring at a screen, so I decided to protect my eyes and get some blue light glasses. I didn’t spend much money on my blue light glasses at all, they were around £9.
These are the blue light glasses I got…
6. Invested in my craft
This year, I listened to a lot of business podcasts. The piece of advice that I heard time and time again is to invest in your craft. So, I spent some money this year investing in my blog and business. Also, I bought a tripod and Bluetooth clicker at the beginning of the year so I could take my own pictures.
This is the tripod that I use to take my outfit and product pictures:
7. Invested in my own style
I still have a lot of work to do in this category, but over the past year, I focused on buying the quality of quantity. I found myself buying more expensive items that will last me years, instead of buying items I can only wear a handful of time.
And that’s it!
I hope you were able to note a few ideas down so you can get set 2021 off right by investing in yourself! Good luck xx

20. Create a vision board (FREE)
Vision boards are a cliche way to start the new year, but they are such a good way to set goals and intentions. Plus, it is amazing to look back on at the end of the year to see how much you accomplished.
